We presented EmoMeeting, a novel on-line meeting experience based on interactive expressions, which was designed as a balance of the lack of emotional expression in auido chating and the real-time visual communication in video chating, which is, however, embarrassing on some occasions such as low network quality or crowded environment. EmoMeeting provided users with an optional solution to send dynamic emojis as a low-fidelity real-time exmotional expression based on facial expression recognition technology.

EmoMeeting
In the post-epidemic era, distant on-line meeting may become a common way for people to communicate, while the experience of nowadays on-line communication tools still needs improvements, especially on emotional expression, which plays an important role in people’s communication. The lack of visual communication in audio chatting limited the intensity of emotional expression, while the real-time video chatting or avatar facial mapping may still cause embarrassment on some occasions such as low network quality or crowded environment. We presented EmoMeeting, a novel on-line meeting experience, to provided users with an optional solution to send dynamic emojis as a low-fidelity real-time exmotional expression based on facial expression recognition technology.

Send dynamic emojis by natural facial expressions
When the user naturally expresses an informative expression (e.g., a positive, confused or shocked expression) during the communication, the system will send a corresponding dynamic emoji to the other on-line speaker. In other cases, the system will hold a dynamic neutral expression such as a smiling expression.
Imformative expressions (collected from Skype)
We hope to build a balanced experience design between non-vision and high-fidelity on-line meeting experience and provide users with an experience of emotional expression closer to the natural way of people’s communication.
